Motorola Officially Intros Moto X, a Highly Customizable Smartphone

On August 1, mobile phone maker Motorola officially announced the long-rumored Moto Xsmartphone, with a near-stock Android experience loaded on top, and with a series of unique features packed inside as well.

The handset is set to arrive on the market in the United States via all major wireless carriers in the country, including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and US Cellular, and will feature a price tag of $199.99 (€151) with the signing of a two-year contract agreement.
The smartphone was announced with a 4.7-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720 x 1280 pixels resolution, while being powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, paired with an Adreno 320 quad-core GPU.

Moto X is meant to represent the new Motorola, which is now a Google subsidiary, and packs hardware and software that should work together seamlessly to deliver the best mobile experience out there.

The handset also features a 10-megapixel ClearPixel photo snapper on the back, with support for full HD video recording, which is complemented by a 2MP front camera for making video calls.

The phone packs a 2200mAh battery inside, 2GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, 4G LTE connectivity, HSPA+, Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean platform loaded on top, and 50GB of free Google Drive storage space for two years.

Users interested in the device will be offered the possibility of choosing between 16 GB and 32 GB models, while also enjoying a wide range of customization options when it comes to the handset’s front and back colors.

Motorola will provide users with the option to purchase it online, while enabling them to choose from 2 front colors, 18 back colors, and 7 accent colors. They can also opt in for a custom message to be written on the back of the device, or have a personalized boot up message included in the software.

“Your Moto X is truly yours, because you design it. Through our online studio, Moto Maker, you choose the colors, and decide on the details: front, back, accents, memory, wallpapers, even add a name or a short message. When you’re done, we assemble your Moto X right here in the USA and ship it to you for free in 4 days or less,” Motorola announced.

“Choose from more than 2,000 possible combinations, with more to come. We’ll be constantly exploring new offerings, such as real wood backs, starting later in the year. Still love the classics? You can choose an eye-catching woven black or woven white model right in the store (see below for more info on availability).”

The features list of Moto X also includes Active Display, which offers information at users’ fingertips, a Quick Capture camera, Touchless Control to allow them interact with it without using their hands, a unique curved back, and an always-ready Google Now, waiting for users to start talking to it.

No specific release date for the mobile phone has been provided as of now, but Motorola did say that it should become available for purchase in the US, Canada, and Latin America starting in late August/early September. Users will be able to purchase woven black and woven white models from AT&T, Sprint, US Cellular, Verizon Wireless, and various retailers.
